Improved Red Cell Concentrates
°±º¿Á(Ë©ÏÖè¬)/Koon Ok Kang
Abstract
It is safely assumed that a nation's level of blood transfusion therapy can be
measured by how widely red cell transfusion is used, since it consists the main part of
the blood component therapy. However, red cell transfusion has it is own short comings
also. Microaggregate and slow transfusion rate, for example, can cause problems in
operatio of such as hypovolemic patients. An attempt was made to improve the effect of
red cell transfusion therapy by removing these defects, and thus eliminating the side
effects as well as the problems associated with transfusion process control..
Among observed in this work are:
(1) The Hematocrit values of packed red cell(PRC) are plotted as a function of the
weightg of a unit of PRC bag.
(2) The flow rate (transfusion rate) of the PRC decreased to less than 1/3 of the
whole blood, as the Ht value of the PRC increased to a level higher than 70%,
(3) A newly devicd double bag was used to prepare buffy coat free PRC (WBC
content: less than 80%) and Ht value was adjusted to optimum point of 70% by means
of plasma reverse flow, which can be applied to both double and tripple bag preparation.
